29th December 2015 Daily Current affairs / GK / GA: e-Office launched by Ministry of Women and Child Development

  • Aim : It will help to provide efficient services to the people by digitizing more than 12000 files.
  • It was formally launched by WCD Minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi in New Delhi on the lines with the spirit of Good Governance initiative of Union Government.
  • Various modules of this e-office are Knowledge Management System, File Management System, Leave Management System and Tour Management System.

LPG subsidy scheme linked to income.

  • Union Govt announced linking of LPG Subsidy scheme in order to ensure benefits for targeted Group.
  • LPG consumers will not be available for subsidy if his/her spouse has taxable income of more than 10 lakh rupee.
  • This decision will be given effect to initially on self-declaration basis of LPG consumers while booking cylinders January 2016.

Vijay Kelkar Committee releases its report on Revisiting & Revitalizing PPP model.

  • There were 9 members in committee and was headed by former Finance Secretary Vijay Kelkar.
  • Committee submitted its report on 19 November 2015.
  • The committee was constituted on 26 May 2015 to review the experience of PPP Policy and suggest measures to improve capacity building in Government for their effective implementation.

RBI releases report of Deepak Mohanty Committee on Medium term path on Financial Inclusion.

  • Committee was constituted on 15 July 2015 by the RBI with the objective of working out a medium-term (five year) measurable action plan for financial inclusion.
  • The 14-member committee was headed by RBI Executive Director Deepak Mohanty.

18th India-Iran joint Commission meeting held in New Delhi.

  • Meeting was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister of India (EAM) Sushma Swaraj and Ali Tayebnia, Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance of Iran.
  • Both the leaders reviewed the progress in trade and economic cooperation and a number of related matters.
  • They also discussed the possibilities in cooperation in railways, including by supply of rails, rolling stock and signaling.

Haskell Wexler, Oscar winning cinematographer passed away.

  • He was 93 and was one of of the America’s most influential cinematographer.
  • He was best known for his work in films like One flew over the Cuckoo’s Next and American Graffiti.
  • He won Oscar Awards for his films including Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf? (1966) and Bound for Glory (1976).

Renowned science fiction writer George Clayton Johnoson passes away due to cancer.

  • He was 86. Born on 10 July 1929 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Johnson debuted into the entertainment business in 1959 when he wrote the I’ll Take Care of You episode for Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Amitabh Kant gets additional charge as CEO of NITI Aayog.

  • He will replace incumbent CEO Sindhushree Khullar whose tenure will end on 31st December 2015.
  • The National Institution for Transforming India Aayog (NITI Aayog) is a Government of India policy think-tank.
  • It was formed on 1 January 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to replace the Planning Commission.
