PM Modi published digital version of  epic “Ramcharitmanas”.

  • The digital recording of “Ramcharitmanas” was released as set of CDs producted by All India Radio (AIR).
  • It was composed and recorded for the first time in 1980 ar Akashvani Bhopal.

IndPay , a mobiles app services to provide operation of account related services to customer.

  • The app was launched by Indian Bank MD and CEO M K jain.
  • It seeks to help customers to access their bank accounts (Enquiries, transfer of fund and mini statement) from anywhere across the country.

SAHAJ Scheme, an online scheme for new LPG connections launched by  union petroleum and natural gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

  • The scheme will enables the customers to apply online for new LPG connection.
  • Customer doesn’t need to visit LPG distributors for it.
  • Through “SAHAJ facility” , customers can post online request for a new connection by filing Know Your Customer (KYC) form by uploading bank account details and photographs.
  • Initially, the SAHAJ scheme has been launched in 12 cities viz., Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Patna, Mumbai and Pune.

Country’s largest private sector bank HDFC cuts its base rate by 0.35 percent.

  • The new base rate is 9.35 percent.
  • The move comes after the Reserve Bank of India cut its benchmark repo rate thrice this year and also asked banks to follow through with cuts on their lending rates.
  • At 9.35 percent, HDFC Bank’s base rate is the lowest among banks. Peers SBI and ICICI Bank are at 9.7 percent but may move soon.

Supreme Court of India (SC) put the stay on order passed by Rajasthan High Court declaring Jain ritual “Santhara” as illeagal and punishable under IPC.

  • The Bench was hearing a batch of petitions filed by various religious bodies of Jain community members against the High Court order on Santhara.
  • The pleas had sought a stay on the High Court judgment, claiming it was passed without appreciating the basic philosophy and tenets of Jain religion.
  • Santhara is a Jain custom of embracing voluntary death – it involves practitioners taking an oath to stop eating until they die of starvation.
  • This is a way to purge oneself of bad ‘karma’ and attain ‘moksha’ according to Jains.

Union Govt. identifies 305 cities and towns across 9 states under “Housing for all” mission for building house for poor peoples in urban areas.

  • Housing for All (Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna) project was launched on 25 june.
  • Govt has set the target for two crore families belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) in urban areas by 2022.

Mountaineer Jot Singh honored with Tenzing Norgay National Adventure award 2014-15.

  • Mountaineer Jot Singh of (ITBP) was conferred with the award by President Pranab Mukherjee during the national sports awards presentation ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on the eve of National Sports Day observed on 29 August.
  • Jot Singh became 11th ITBP official to receive this honour.
  • He is one of the best mountaineers of ITBP and has been undertaking expeditions.
  • He also has scaled the Mount Everest.
  • About Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award : Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award is an annual award named after Indian and Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay. It is given by Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Indian wrestler Anil wins Gold medal in Cadet Wrestling World Championships in 50 kg freestyle competition.

  • The final match was the held at Sarajevo, Bosnia.
  • He clinched the Gold medal by defeating Erfan Aieni of Iran 10-6.
  • It was second medal for India in Cadet wrestling World championship.
  • Earlier female grappler Ankus had won silver medal in the 38 kg women freestyle competitions.
