What is Toll Tax: Toll Tax is a tax given by passengers for passage on a roadway built by Govt or any private entity.
Period of Toll tax collection: When a highway is ready to be used by passengers, toll tax is to be collected to recover the total cost of project. When total cost is recovered by the toll fee than tax decreased to 40% and collected for maintenance purpose only.
It can be removed completely by the state or Central Govt.
Gujarat:
Gujarat Government announced that from 15th August 2016, there will be no Toll Tax in Gujarat for cars & Small Vehicles. For large Vehicles, there is no change in Toll Tax rules. Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel announced it in a plantation program.
This is a very good initiative by the state government; it will really help the people to travel by car.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued notifications for discontinuation of fee collection at 15 Fee Plazas on National Highways in the state of Uttar Pradesh during the last two years. The details are as follows:
