5th December : International Volunteer Day

  • International Volunteer Day (IVD) was on 5 December 2015 observed across the world with the theme The world is changing. Are you? Volunteer!.
  • This year’s theme challenges everyone to be a part of implementing the newly launched Global Goals, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

UP Govt launched first International festival on Birds.

  • UP Government has launched International festival on Birds in a bid to promote state as an international bird-watching destination.
  • The first-of-its-kind festival was inaugurated by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav at the National Chambal Sanctuary (NCS).
  • It has been jointly organised by the State Forest department in collaboration with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).
  • The three-day international festival (from 4 to 6 December 2015) on birds will be held the National Chambal Sanctuary (NCS) in Agra.

RBI barred 56 NBFCs from conducting business.

  • Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the certificate of registration of 56 non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), including ABNL, Future Ventures India and Bajaj Finserve.
  • Following the cancellation of registration certificate, these companies cannot transact in the business of an NBFC as laid down under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.

RBI announced revised priority sector lending norms for RRBs.

  • Among other things, the PSL target was increased to 75 percent of total outstanding from the existing 60 percent.
  • The revised target will be effective from 1 January 2016.
  • The PSL norms have been revised considering the growing significance of RRBs in pursuit of financial inclusion agenda.

Commemorative Coins of Rs 125, Rs 10 released in honor of Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar,.

  • PM Narendra Modi the coins as part of the 125th birth anniversary year celebrations of Dr. Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
  • The coins were issued on his death anniversary, which is observed as Mahaparinirvan Divas of Babasaheb Ambedkar. He breathed his last on 6 December 1956.

JAN LOKPAL BILL , 2015 PASSED BY DELHI ASSEMBLY.

  • Delhi Assembly has unanimously passed the Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill, 2015 for establishment of statutory anti-corruption ombudsman.
  • The Bill provides powers to Lokpal to act against any government functionary including those of the Centre and in the national capital territory (NCT) of Delhi through its own investigation wing.

Note :

  • Composition : Janlokpal will be a three member body with Chairperson and two members.
  • They would be appointed by on recommendation of selection committee consisting of Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition and Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly.
  • Jurisdiction: On receiving corruption complaints from the government or from members of public Janlokpal is empowered to investigate an allegation of corruption in the NCT including the Chief Minister’s office.

China 1st manned electric aircraft gets license for production.

  • China has granted a license for production of first manned two seater electric aircraft RX1E known as RX1E by the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
  • The aircraft has been designed by Shenyang Aerospace University and Liaoning General Aviation Academy in northeastern Liaoning province.

South Western Railway Zone (SWR) introduced Biodiesel for trains under its zone.

  • In this regard, SWR’s first train Hubballi-Bengaluru Janshatabdi Express powered by five per cent biodiesel blended with High Speed Diesel was flagged off from Hubli.
  • The main aim of the initiative is to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) emission and carbon footprint and also to make fuel consumption more efficient.

Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) Arvind Subramanian Committee recommends GST rate of 17-18 percent.

  • Chief Economic Advisor Dr Arvind Subramanian led Committee has recommended standard rate for Goods and Services Tax (GST) at 17 to 18 per cent.
  • The Committee has submitted its report to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi.

India’s forest and tree cover increased by 5081 Sq. KM : ISFR 2015

  • According to the recently released India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2015, India’s forest and tree cover has been increased by 5081 Square kilometre.
  • The report was released by the Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi.

First Double decker Goa-Mumbai trains flagged off by Railway Ministry.

  • Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off the first Goa to Mumbai double-decker Shatabdi train through video conference from Panaji, Goa.
  • The fully air-conditioned double-decker train is the first-of-its-kind in India.
  • The train will run thrice a week between Margao and the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai.
  • The double decker train will cover the distance in around 12 hours. It has eight compartments with a seating capacity of 120 in each compartment.

Austrailia passed Anti Terrorism Law to strip citizenship.

  • Australia’s Federal Parliament has passed Australian Citizenship Amendment (Allegiance to Australia) Bill, 2015 to strip citizenship of convicted persons on terrorism charges.

The new legislation allows government to strip dual nationals of their citizenship if they are convicted of terrorism offences.
