First Raisina-Dialogue 2016, a flagship conference on Geopolitics and Geo-economics began in New Delhi.

The three day conference is joint initiative of Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Observer Research Foundation (ORF), an independent think tank based in India.

Myanmar has granted operating licenses to four Asian banks, bringing to 13 the number of foreign banks allowed to conduct business in the previously isolated country.

Amrita Patel gets Mahindra Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr Amrita Patel has been conferred with the Mahindra Samriddi India Agri Lifetime Achievement Aear-Krishi Shiromani Samman in New Delhi.

Dr Patel is a former Chairman of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

She served as its chief from 1998 to 2014. The award has been conferred by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.

Jalandhar-based Capital Local Area Bank has become the first entity to receive the RBI’s licence to start operations as a small finance bank.

In september 2015 RBI granted in-principle licences to 10 applicants to set up small finance banks, including Capital Local Area Bank.

The small finance bank will undertake basic banking activities of acceptance of deposits and lending to unserved and underserved sections including small business units, marginal farmers and unorganised sector entities.

Veteran Film Actor & Director Manoj Kumar to be conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2016.

He is best known for acting in and directing films with patriotic themes. His first patriotic film was Shaheed (1965) based on the life of Bhagat Singh.

He is a recipient of National Film Award (1968) for the film Upkaar. He also was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1992 and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.
