14 September – Hindi Divas (Hindi Day) observed across India on 14 September 2015.

  • The Day is observed to promote the Matra Bhasha – the mother tongue of India and recongnise its importance as a language in the country and the world at large.
  • Pranab Mukherjee presented Rajbhasa awards in various categories at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • Rajbhasha awards were instituted by the Rajbhasha Vibhag, Ministry of Home Affairs to recognize the excellent contribution of Ministries, Departments and Nationalized Banks and others in the field of Hindi.

Indian Bankers women topped the fortune’s most powerful women list.

  • Chanda Kochhar and Arundhati Bhattacharya have been ranked as top two in a list of most powerful women in Asia-Pacific prepared by the global magazine Fortune.
  • Chanda Kochar is MD and CEO of ICICI Bank while Arundhati Bhattacharya is MD and CEO of State Bank of India.
  • Hindustan Petroleum Corporation’s Chairman and Managing Director, Nishi Vasudeva, has also made it to the list at fifth rank, same as the previous.
  • Axis Banks’ MD and CEO Shikha Sharma came at 9th spot in the list.

Prabhat Singh appointed as MD and CEO of Petronet LNG Limited.

  • Petronet LNG Ltd is india’s biggest liquefied natural gas importer.
  • He was the Director of Marketing at state gas utility GAIL India Ltd before his appointment at Petronet.
  • He replaced A K Balyan, who had completed his five-year term on July 15.

Indian Railway partnered with Google for providing free wifi services under Project Nilgiri.

  • Project Nilgiri is the joint collaboration between Indian railways and Google to provide free wifi services across 400 railway station in india.
  • The project employs Google’s Fiber technology under which the company provides internet services up to a speed of 1 Gbps. Google Fiber was launched in 2010 and the service is available only in the USA.

India-Maldives joint military training Exercise EKUVERIN 2015.

  • 15 day long joint military exercise was held at the Pangode Military Station in Trivandrum, Kerala from 31 Aug to 13 sep 2015.
  • The exercise saw the participation of the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Forces.

DRDO scientist Dr. G Satheesh Reddy conferred with Silver Medal of the prestigious Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS).

  • DRDO stands for Defence Research and Development Organisation.
  • He was conferred with this medal for his contributions as one of the leading navigation and avionics experts of the Indian Defense research establishment.
  • The award will be formally presented to him at the Wilbur and Orville Wright Lecture to be held on 9 December 2015 in the Society’s headquarters in London.

Union Ministry of Water Resources constituted a seven-member committee on restructuring water agaencies.

  • It will advise on restructuring the Central Water Commission (CWC) and the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).
  • The Committee will be headed by former Planning Commission member Mihir Shah.

Hormusji N Cama becomes the new chairman of Pres Trust of India.

  • He is the Managing Director of oldesh continuously published newspaper in India from 1855.
  • He succeeded Mohan Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of the Jagran Prakashan Limited (JPL).
  • Currently Cama is Chairman of the Readership Studies Council of India and has also served as President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS).
  • He is also on the Board of Council for Fair Business Practices and Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC).
  • Riyad Mathew was unanimously elected as the Vice Chairman of the PTI.

Classical dancer Kalamandalam Sathyabhama passes ways in Palakkad district of Kerala.

  • She was regarded as a matriarch of Mohiniyattam.
  • She was well-known for her experimental reforms in this classical dance form which helped to preserve and popularise the traditional art form.
  • She also was the first woman Vice Principal of Kerala Kalamandalam and later, became its Principal till she retired in 1992.

US Open 2015 Title Winners List :

US open 2015 was the overall 135th edition of the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year 2015.

It is a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Women’s Singles : Italy’s Flavia Pennetta has lifted the Women’s Singles trophy of the US Open.

Runner up  : Roberta Vinci (Italy) .

Men’s Doubles Title: French pair of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut won the Men’s Doubles trophy of the US Open.

Runner up :  Jamie Murray (United Kingdom) and John Peers (Australia).

Women’s Doubles : Sania Mirza (India) and Martina Hingis (Switzerland) pair won the Switzerland women’s Doubles trophy of the US Open.

Runner Up : Casey Dellacqua (Australia) and Yaroslava Shvedova (Kazakhstan)

Mixed Doubles Title : Leander Paes (India) and Martina Hingis (Switzerland)

Runner Up : American pair of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey

Men’s Singles Title : Novak Djokovic

Runner Up : Roger Federer
